課程概述 |
This course introduces a broad set of fundamental topics regarding management of construction business. Topics include Characteristics of Construction Industry, Design Management, Quality Control, Cost Estimating & Project Financing, Planning & Scheduling, PERT & Risk Management, Project Delivery Methods, Bidding & Contracting, Disputes and Legal Aspects, Bonding & Insurance, Construction Productivity, Leadership & Human Factors, and Organization Renewal & Transformation.
These topics will not only help student understand the uniqueness of construction industry, but also, evaluate construction management’s effectiveness, as well as apply modern management methods to planning and scheduling for construction projects. Students will run one entire project from planning through scheduling and budgeting, both manually and on the computer. Computer applications are an integral part of this course and the student will plan his/her project on a hypothetical project. The course will be taught in English.

2. To introduce basic concepts of planning and control processes
3. To learn modern scheduling methods for project management
4. To obtain the principles of integrating time with cost and risk management.
5. To understand theories behind optimal resource allocation and leveling
6. To apply computer technologies in construction scheduling, and budgeting.
7. To get insight of total quality management, organization renewal & transformation.
8. To learn project delivery methods, contracting and other legal aspects
9. To comprehend motivation, leadership and other human factors
10. To gain the knowledge of risk management and productivity

Some additional reading assignments will be assigned throughout the semester. The course outline may be adjusted to adapt to students' interests and learning progress. Guest speakers may be invited to reinforce students' understanding of applying theories to real world practice when the guest speakers are available.
